The Maasai at Soralo
South Rift Valley, Kenya
SORALO (South Rift Association of Land Owners) aims to maintain a healthy and intact landscape that benefits both people and wildlife. I visited to find out more about the Rebuilding the Pride project. The project focuses on large carnivores (lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas), monitoring their movements and sharing the information with local livestock herders. Unlike most national parks in Africa where people have been displaced, here both people and wildlife not only live together but both flourish. It is one of the few places in Africa where lion populations are on the up. I also visited a traditional boma (village).
